Indicators of Misuse
 |
 |
 |
 |
In all cases, heed the warning signs and use comfort as your guide. Not all misuse indicators apply to all device configurations, with the exception of wrap tightness. Tension issues generally refer to the higher tension device, the Static Stretcher. Although if misused, the StaticWrap may produce similar conditions. |

Skin Irritation
Skin irritation in the form of mild reddening indicates either wrapping is too tight or tension is too high, or both. It may also indicate you are waiting too long between re-application. Everyone’s skin is different, you must adjust your re-application intervals in accordance with your body's indicators. Some men re-apply every 2 hours, while others re-apply only once a day. You may apply a moisturizer to the skin before applying. Be sure the moisturizer has fully absorbed before applying a device. The skin surface should be dry. Use a moisturizer intended for delicate areas such as the face.
Some skin irritations or skin pain may indicate the Bio-Adhesive needs to be removed due to allergic reaction. It’s assumed allergic reaction to the Bio-Adhesive is possible in extremely rare instances. Rest assured the material contains no known carcinogens, no known skin irritants, no latex or rubber and, is completely breathable. The material is approved for use in prosthetics. All reactions must be evaluated by a licensed Dermatologist or similarly-suited medical practitioner. In the case of allergic reaction, use must be discontinued.
Skin breaks and open sores indicate severely high tension, as well as a user who is ignoring warning signs. Mild pain, itchiness, skin soreness and redness precede this condition by several days. Do not think the skin will toughen in response to these indicators -- testing has shown it will only get worse. Numerous users report reducing tension allows the conditions to heal. You must be the judge: if you have allowed the conditions to worsen, discontinue use until they heal - plus one week. When you restart, watch the instructions again and follow them carefully for tightness and tension settings.

Blistering Under Vacuum Tension
If you do NOT follow the instructions you may suffer blistering during higher tensions or long-durations, or both. If you skip the preparation steps and as a result, suffer a blister - do not “pop” it. Testing has shown that allowing a blister to subside and heal on its own reduces the healing time by more than 1 week. It is also much more comfortable and pain-free compared with popping it. Use a bandage to protect the blister while it heals. After it heals, wait at least an additional week to be sure the tissue under the blister also heals. The preparation steps were created and tested to avoid injury - follow them.

Coldness, Numbness or Blanching
Coldness, Numbness or Blanching (color-loss) indicates wrapping is too tight or tension is too high, or both. Do not over tighten wraps and do not over-apply tension. Be comfortable.
Uncircumcised men require a longer period of time to adjust to wrapping. This is due to the difficulties associated with pulling back the foreskin in order to place the wrap. It is recommended that uncircumcised men plan extra days in order to become adjusted to the wrap and to develop a suitable wrapping technique. A wrap may be used to assist in this effort. By placing a wrap over the penis one-half turn and holding the wrap and penis extended, the other hand may be used to lift the wrap and pull back this extra skin. The wrap can then be “dropped” back down on this newly tightened skin. This procedure can be repeated until a sufficient amount of skin has been pulled back toward the base and out from underneath the wrap. Due to its sticky characteristic, the wrap will hold the skin back. Once completed, wrapping can be handled as shown in the instructions. Note however, the skin should not be “tight as a drum”. Also, including a larger portion of the glans within the wrap than shown in the instructions can be very helpful.
Uncircumcised men may use to use the Static Press-Vac instead of the Static Wrap with the medium-duty stretcher. This is not only easier to apply, but can also produce more tension. The disadvantage is that you cannot urinate while wearing the Static Press-Vac.

Fluid Build-Up
It is possible to accumulate lymphatic fluid in the glans. This indicates:
- wrapping is too tight
- tension is too high
- the duration is too long
- a combination of these issues
With the Light-duty Stretcher, the wrap or straps are definetly too tight. In the case of the Medium-duty Stretcher, the most likely cause is overly-tight wrapping or overly tight straps, or both. With the heavy-duty Stretcher, time under tension will eventually cause some fluid build-up with durations exceeding a couple of hours. Be sure to follow the instructions to eliminate or minimize fluid build-up. Lymphatic fluid build-up will clear itself after reducing tightness, reducing tension or removing a device.

Urine Spraying
With the Light-duty or medium-duty Static Wraps you can urinate while wearing the devices. But urine spraying indicates the wrapping is too tight or the tension is adjusted too high, or both. However, if no other signs of tight wrapping or high tension are evident, the wrap may simply be too close to the urethra's opening, in which case this isn't a problem other than it causes urine spraying. Sitting while urinating will allow the toilet bowl to shield clothing and legs. You should not have to force urination. If a mild “push” is needed to start urination, re-adjust your wrap tension or strap tension to be slightly looser until urination occurs freely.
Do not force urination - loosen the wrap, the straps or reduce the tension. Urinary tract infections and irritations are quite possible otherwise. Most users feel the ability to urinate comfortably guided them to proper wrap tightness. Also, if you are susceptible to urinary infections, supplementing your diet with cranberry tablets may help. However, use good judgment and see a doctor for any condition which persists.
Occasionally, the wrap tightness may be just slightly too great to urinate freely. In this case, simply release one of the straps at the distal abutment. If this alone does not allow free urination, the wrap or the other strap is too tight.

Pubic Area Skin Soreness
For the medium-duty devices, pubic area skin soreness indicates the base strap is too tight, or the tension is too high, or both. Be sure to keep the base loose enough to comfortably and easily accommodate a full erection. This will prevent soreness and provide more comfort and convenience. An inability to comfortably rotate the penis circularly with respect to the pubic bone indicates the tension is too high for continuous-use comfort.

Heavy-duty Base Irritation
If skin is “bunched” under the heavy-duty base it will cause irritation. Also be sure to not allow the base to trap hair under tension. Run a finger around the rim of the base to release any hairs which are under tension.
The heavy-duty device can fatigue the pubic area after several hours of continuous high-tension. Shifting the base around slightly every 30 to 60 minutes can eliminate this issue.

Discomfort During Low to Mid-level Erections
Discomfort during low to mid-level erections indicates the wrapping is too tight. Full erections may be uncomfortable. The device should be removed if an erection will not subside. Masturbation may be helpful in alleviating this condition. The Static Stretcher and StaticWrap can produce mild stimulation when first applied.
Skin wrinkling is possible after low to mid-level erections. This may become uncomfortable. Plan to re-wrap after an erection has subsided even if you do not feel any discomfort.
Some users report using frequent ejaculation to keep the penis relaxed. It is common to have an erection after removing any of the Static Stretcher configurations.
